Where can I find Black Men Built The Capitol: Discovering African American History In and Around Washington, D.C.?
Well, you can click on the link above that says “Buy The Book!” That will take you to the book’s page on Amazon.com, where it’s selling right now! Black Men Built The Capitol is now in bookstores all around the Washington, D.C. areas and around the nation. If you come see me at one of my book events or signings, I’ll also have copies of BMBTC with me available for sale. I also plan to eventually set up an online sales site here on the website, but that’s sometime down the road.
How can I get your book signed?
The best way is to come see me at one of my events in and around the Washington, D.C. area. The easiest way to find out about these events is to keep an eye on the Appearances pages on this site. You can also send me a copy of BMBTC to me with a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and I’ll sign it and send it back! But I promise you, your best bet is to come see me talk about the book!
Are you going to be speaking about BMBTC anywhere close to me?
I’m scheduling Appearances as fast as I can! The majority of my appearances will be here in Washington, D.C., of course, but I also plan to make some special stops near my home in Holly Springs, Miss. If you have an organization or group that you think would be interested in hearing from me, let me know and I’ll see if I can add it to my schedule!
You’re from Mississippi? Then why are you writing a book about Washington, D.C.? Why didn’t you write about Mississippi?
You know, I do get this question frequently and I really don’t know why. The quick answer is, Read the Preface of the book. It’ll explain everything.
But just in case you haven’t bought the book yet:
Yes, I’m from Mississippi, and don’t worry, I have a book in my head about Mississippi that will come out one day. But I live here in the District. I’ve lived here for a while now. Being from Mississippi, though, means I have an interest in American history, Southern history and African American history (History is an obsession in Mississippi.) One of the cardinal rules of writing is “Write what you want to read.” I wanted to read more about the African American history of the Capitol, the White House and the National Mall. I couldn’t find a book that would tell me what I wanted to know. Since I couldn’t find it, I decided to write it. BMBTC is the result.
Is there a hardcover version of the book?
Nope, not yet. The first printing was in softcover. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a deluxe edition one day in hardcover. (Part of the reason we chose softcover is because a hardcover edition would be much more expensive.)
How can I get in contact with you?
The best way to get in contact with me is through my e-mail address here at the site, jesse@jessejholland.com. You can also join me at my blog, which is posted at http://jessejholland.livejournal.com. I’m also setting up a place for snail mail, which I’ll post here soon.
I see that you’re still a working journalist. Where can I read some the material you’ve written for The Associated Press?
The best way to see what I’m writing is to do a Google News search or a Yahoo News search on my name and Associated Press. Try this link: Google News, or this link: Yahoo News
